Petanque in Oxford

The Waimakariri Council have recently re done the surface of the Petanque terrain in
Pearson Park Oxford and it is now a well compacted surface for playing Petanque on.

The Oxford Winter Lights Festival was held on Friday 21st June 2019 and we arranged for
the terrain to be floodlit and play Petanque under lights.

During the afternoon the public were given the opportunity to have a go and ask questions
about the game. Once the lights took over demonstration games were played with a group
of keen players from Ashburton playing and explaining the game.

The interest in the game here has increased and a group of locals have started playing social
games and are getting to know the rules. The Men's Shed have provided a park bench seat
and have also made a couple of scoreboards and a notice board with basic rules of the
game.

During summer we will set some regular times to play and keep the interest. At the
moment games are arranged to suit the weather and availability. PNZ members travelling
through the village are welcome to use the terrain and contact me for some games.
