Tournament
Eligibility
All entrants must
be:
-
Financial
members of a petanque club
affiliated to Petanque New
Zealand.

Permanent New
Zealand residents (as
defined in the immigration
laws of New Zealand).
Entry Procedures
-
Entry forms
will be sent to all
clubs affiliated to Petanque
New Zealand, and may also be
downloaded from the PNZ
website:
www.petanquenz.com.
-
Entries will
only be accepted on the
official entry form.
-
Completed
entry forms, together with
the required entry fee, are
to be returned to PNZ.
-
Each player
must provide their contact
details and the name of the
Club they belong to.
-
All entries
will be validated and
confirmed. Confirmation will
either be by email or post.
If confirmation has not been
received, the entry has not
been received by PNZ and the
entrants will not be
permitted to play in the
tournament.
-
It is the
responsibility of entrants
to ensure their entry has
been received by PNZ.
-
Late entries
will not be accepted.
-
By completing
this entry form entrants
have agreed to abide by the
tournament rules and
conditions.
Tournament Rules
-
The
tournament will be played to
the FIPJP Rules as adopted
by Petanque New Zealand.
-
Boules must
comply with FIPJP Rules i.e.
the use of leisure boules at
PNZ National Tournaments is
not permitted.
-
All teams
must have their own
appropriate equipment for
measuring points, as
required by Article 26 of
the Rules.
-
Entrants are
required to participate in
the entire tournament; i.e.
a player cannot leave
partway through without good
cause. Late withdrawals for
a good cause, such as
illness, will be
accommodated. PNZ is to be
notified immediately of any
such instances.
Note: Any
player withdrawing from a
National Championship after
the start of the event
without good cause will be
barred from participating in
the following three National
Championships.

Immediately
at the conclusion of a game
a player from each team is
required to sign that the
score is correct on the
result sheet.

Both positive
and negative points will be
used to calculate the
point’s differential.
Tournament Format
-
Day (1): All
teams will play 6 games from
a random draw. At the
conclusion of play teams
will be placed in descending
order based on the total
number of wins and points
differential. Depending on
the number of entries,
either 8, 16 or 32 teams
will qualify for the Trophy
& Plate. The remaining
players qualify for the
Bowl.
Note: A
maximum of 48 teams will be
taken through to Day (2)
i.e. 32 for the Trophy &
Plate and 16 for the Bowl.

Day (2):
Trophy &
Plate:
Pools of 4
teams (Barrage Format.). The
1st and 2nd teams in each
pool qualify for the Trophy
Elimination Playoff. The 3rd
and 4th teams in each pool
qualify (depending on the
number of entries) for the
Plate Elimination Playoff.
Bowl:
Pools of 4
teams (Barrage Format). The
1st and 2nd teams in each
pool qualify for the Bowl
Elimination Playoff.
Risk Management
Policy
Players should be
aware that the game of petanque
involves a number of hazards
that have the potential to cause
harm to players, officials
and/or spectators. These
include:

Being hit by
a thrown or displaced boule.

Being struck
by objects such as pebbles
or stones displaced by a
thrown boule.
-
Tripping over
strings or other material
used to delineate playing
boundaries.
While the
tournament organisers will take
all reasonable steps to ensure
that these risks are
minimised, players entering a
tournament also have the
responsibility to ensure their
own safety and the safety of
others.
PNZ policy for
National Tournaments is that
open-toed shoes, sandals or
jandals are not acceptable
footwear.
Smoking
Smoking is not
permitted on the terrain during
play at any time. This applies
to both players and spectators.
Players are not permitted to
leave the terrain without the
permission of the Umpire.
Cancellation of
Tournament
The tournament
will not be cancelled for any
reason. However PNZ reserves the
right to alter the tournament
format or venue if any
unforeseen events prevent the
tournament from starting or
finishing within the designated
playing time.
Team
Identification (Doubles &
Triples)
PNZ encourages
team members to wear
like-coloured shirts.
Disputes
The Umpire(s)
appointed for the tournament
will adjudicate in all matters
to do with the tournament rules.
In all other matters a Disputes
Committee made up of one
representative from the host
association or club and two PNZ
representatives will adjudicate.
