PNZ History

Introduction

It's now nearly 14 years since the New Zealand Petanque Association was established as the national governing body for the sport of petanque in New Zealand. Since taking over the management of the PNZ website it has been my intention to use the website to record and preserve the history of the Association.

Already posted on this website are the results of all our National Championships and our participation in various international tournaments since 1994. However there is a large reservoir of historical information in the newsletters and magazines published by the Association that needs to be preserved. Over the last few months I have started to prepare this information to post on the website.

First of all a brief history of the newsletters and magazines published by the Association:

Early 1994: Cam Calder and Jorg Schulze produced the first edition of the NZPA Newsletter for the New Zealand Petanque Association. A further 3 editions were published.
1995: The newsletter evolved into the Boules Gazette produced and edited by Cam Calder. Eleven editions were published. The final edition was published in March 1998.
With the demise of the Boules Gazette the NZPA Committee produced 2 editions of The Bouletin.
March 1999: The Boules Gazette was resurrected for one more edition by Michael Emerson.
June 1999: The first edition of the Petanque New Zealand magazine was published with Brenda Dykes as editor. Published four times a year a total of 18 editions were produced. The final edition was published in December 2003.
September 2005: After a gap of nearly two years the Petanque New Zealand magazine was resurrected with Murray Porter as editor. The magazine is produced four times a year.

I have reproduced nearly all the contents of each edition of the NZPA Newsletter, Boules Gazette and The Bouletin. From the Petanque New Zealand magazine only the main articles for each edition will be reproduced.

Not all the material is ready for the website at this stage. However over the next few months, as time permits, more material will be added. All the material comes from my own personal collection of petanque memorabilia.
