Results

New Zealand won the 4th Trans Tasman Challenge held on 13 & 14 May at the Horowhenua Petanque Club, Levin, to reclaim the trophy that has been held by Australia for the last two years.

 

Leading at the end of the first day by 33 points to 27 points, New Zealand went on to consolidate it's position on the second day and take an unassailable lead of 71 points to 37 points.

 

New Zealand won a total of 31 games (22 doubles, 9 triples) to Australia's 17 games (14 doubles, 3 triples). The New Zealand women won 18 of the 31 games (16 doubles, 2 triples) and the men 13 games (7 doubles, 6 triples).

 

The doubles team of Bethne Rouse and Roberta Campbell had the perfect result, 6 wins from 6 games.

 

In the Senior section New Zealand dominated throughout. Leading by 47 points to 13 at the end of the first day they went on to take an unbeatable lead at the end of the second round of doubles on the second day. The final result was: New Zealand 61 points, Australia 23 points.

 

The doubles team of Trevor Neilson and Reed Jamieson were unbeaten in the doubles (6 wins) and Trevor was the only player (in either the open or seniors) to go through the tournament unbeaten.
