2006 Annual General Meeting

Treasurer's Report

The Association’s accounts show a healthy surplus of $7,000.15 for 2005.

Trans Tasman

The 2005 Trans Tasman incurred a loss of $1,188.90. However PNZ had agreed to contribute $1,000 towards the costs. With the Trans Tasman being held in Australia we received a $4,000 grant towards the team’s airfares from the Lion Foundation. We also received a $1,000 grant towards the team’s uniforms from the Unison Trust.

World Championships

Last year there was a reduction in:

  • club and individual donations from $11,364 (2004) to $6,287 (2005)

  • gaming and community trust grants from $18,562 (2004) to $3,500 (2005)

This reduction in income meant that individual team members had to contribute to make up the shortfall. However because PNZ paid the cost of the delegate’s airfares, accommodation and travel expenses to the F.I.P.J.P. meeting and the team uniforms, we incurred a loss of $5,452.29. The PNZ Council has voted not to send a delegate to the 2006 meeting of the F.I.P.J.P.

Oceania Championships

A small surplus of $354.67 was made on the Oceania Championships. However without the last minute grants from the New Zealand Community Trust and the Southern Trust we would have made a loss of several thousand dollars.

Magazine

Last year saw the resurrection of the PNZ magazine. The decision has clearly proved to be popular as both club and individual subscriptions are trickling in at a steady rate. A significant amount of income has been generated from selling advertising space in the magazine.

Membership

The number of affiliated clubs stands at 44 (43 in 2004). The number affiliated members increased from 1231 to 1278.

Grants & Sponsorship

Our major sponsor, the New Zealand Peugeot agents Sime Darby Automobiles NZ Ltd, continued their financial support of PNZ. On behalf of the PNZ I would like to thank Sime Darby Automobiles NZ Ltd for their support.

Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC)

In the last financial year PNZ received a total of $11,000 from SPARC made up of:

  • $3,000, 2nd instalment for 2004

  • $6,000, 2005 grant

  • $2,000 for winning the Oceania Championship

  •  PNZ’s current investment Agreement with SPARC for $6,000 p.a. expired at the end of December 2005 and is thus due to be re-negotiated.

Community and Charity Gaming Association Trusts

I would like to thank the following Trusts who made grants to PNZ for:

  • Trans Tasman Challenge: Unison Trust, Lion Foundation

  • World Championships: New Zealand Community Trust

  • Oceania Championships: Southern Trust, New Zealand Community Trust, Rotorua Arts Charitable Trust

Oceania Player Levy Dispute

The dispute over payment of player levies for the 2005 Oceania Championships was resolved through legal channels, after the players challenged, through lawyers, the process by which PNZ imposed penalties in respect of the dispute. This cost PNZ $2,926.32 (refer Income and Expenditure Details, General Expenses).
